The Art Section
The Centre has an Art Section where children of the locality are given lessons in fine arts from the tender age of 5-6 years. The Section follows the curriculum of “Sarbabharatiya Sangeet O Sanskriti Parishad”.
The curriculum covers oil pastels to water colours with theory papers on arts from the 2nd year. Oil painting has been introduced for the higher classes. At every bi-annual prize distribution programme, the Art Section organizes an exhibition displaying works of art and craft by the students. A team of 6 competent instructors cater to more than 130 students divided into different groups according to stages of the curriculum.
The students appear for annual diploma examinations from the stage Pre-primary I through a span of 11 years [ PP I – PP III, Primary, 1st year – 7th year]. Every year examinations are held around April and the new session begins after the examinations. Successful students are given diploma certificates and marksheets after each examination.
Besides, students eagerly participate in the bi-annual art and crafts exhibition held along with the prize distribution of Sri Aurobindo Bal Mandir where their art works are displayed and appreciated by Guests and dignitaries.
The Art section has future plans for craft and modelling workshop. Outdoor sessions for senior students are being thought of.
Classes on DIGITAL ART have been introduced at the Art Section from the year 2022 where students learn working on GRAPHIC DESIGN TOOLS under a competent Instructor. Classes are held in 2 batches at present on Sundays. Information about admission to this course is available from the Art & Music Section Office.
The Art Section from time to time conducts outdoor sessions for the senior students where they learn to create artworks inspired by the surroundings in the open air. Here are some glimpses of an outdoor session at the Park Street Cemetery, with the senior students (4th to 7th year, session 2022-2023). This outdoor study led by our art instructor, Mr. Sushital Roy, was followed by a short visit to the Indian Museum where the students were able to draw inspiration from the various historical and cultural artefacts and learnt about different forms of arts. The students enjoy these outdoor sessions thoroughly and the Art section plans to hold such outdoor sessions more often.
