The 148th Birth Anniversary of The Mother was observed with deep reverence and enthusiasm on 21st February 2026 at the Sri Aurobindo Sakti Centre, along with its units — Sri Aurobindo Bal Mandir School and the Art, Music and Dance Section.
The day began with students assembling at Sri Aurobindo Bal Mandir School, where they offered their respects at the Shrine and received gifts and chocolates. In the afternoon, a meditation session was held at the Shrine from 4:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., creating a serene and contemplative atmosphere. This was followed by the inauguration of an Art and Craft Exhibition showcasing the creative works of students from the Art Section. The exhibition was formally opened by Shri Atanu Paul, a photographer of eminence, accompanied by Smt. Madhuparna Chatterjee, a noted designer.
The evening programme commenced with an address by the Managing Trustee of the Centre and Principal of Sri Aurobindo Bal Mandir School. In his speech, he highlighted the institution’s achievements, inspired and guided by the ideas and ideals of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. This was followed by the distribution of prizes to meritorious students of Sri Aurobindo Bal Mandir in recognition of their accomplishments. The programme was graced by distinguished guests, including Prof. Dr. Sheikh Sabbir Ali, Professor of Sanskrit, Vedas and Panini’s Grammar at West Bengal State University and Visiting Faculty at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira; Smt. Sutapa Chowdhury, Principal of Holy Mission School; and Smt. Sanghamitra Ghosh, Member of the Managing Committee of Sister Nivedita Girls School. A vibrant cultural programme followed, the highlight of which was a dance recital portraying diverse cultures from around the world, culminating in a depiction of India as a confluence of religions and traditions, symbolizing unity in diversity. The performance was presented by current and former students of Sri Aurobindo Bal Mandir as a heartfelt offering to The Mother. The celebration was attended by parents, guardians, and distinguished guests. The programme concluded with the distribution of prasad to all guests and staff members.
The celebrations to commemorate Mother’s birthday continued on 22nd February with the cultural events of the Art Section. The cultural programme featured performances from different wings of the Sri Aurobindo Sakti Centre Trust. Instrumental and vocal musical events from the music section and dance performances from the dance section were hugely appreciated by the audience. Students of the drawing section also showcased several cultural activities. The day’s event ended with a drama featuring performances by students and instructors from the Art and Dance Sections of the institution. Parents and guardians of students attended the programme, appreciating the efforts and talents displayed. The art and craft exhibition that visibly showcased the year-round creativity of the students from the art section was also visited by parents, guardians, and guests, who admired the artistic talent and hard work of the students.
